Conference 2005 Press Invitation
Launch

PRESS INVITATION

Media reporters and photographers are invited to the tri-party conference ‘A Force For change’ on November 30 – December 1, 2005 at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre

For the first time ever, SEMPERscotland in association with the Scottish Executive and the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) are to debate the subject of recruitment, retention and progression of black and minority ethnic staff within the Scottish Police Service.

This groundbreaking event will examine why so few people from minority ethnic background do not see the Police Service as a career option; what can be done to improve retention; and the effects a lack of progression has on individuals and the communities they are recruited from.

Is ‘Affirmative Action’ the way forward?

Speakers will include:

Ronald Hampton, Executive Director, National Black Police Association, USA

Andrew Cameron, Chief Constable, Central Scotland Police

Ali Dizaei, Legal Advisor, National Black Police Association, UK

Professor Geoff Palmer, Heriot-Watt University

Paddy Tomkins, Chief Constable, Lothian & Borders Police

This policy-making conference will be attended by delegates from a variety of organisations including:

  • Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland
  • Association of Scottish Police Superintendents
  • British Transport Police
  • Commission for Racial Equality
  • Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service
