Head
of Recruitment, Lothian & Borders Police
He
was born and educated in Edinburgh and, after graduating with
an Honours degree in Music, from the University, worked as a
teacher of music in a large comprehensive school in the city.
Having had a life-long interest in the Police, and after serving
ten years as a Special Constable, he joined Lothian & Borders
in 1982. He was accepted onto the then Accelerated Promotion
Scheme and became a Sergeant in 1986, working in operational
and specialist roles in Edinburgh.
In
1995, he was awarded a post-graduate MSc in Social and Public
Policy, from the University of Edinburgh, and, in 1998, was
promoted to Inspector and took up an operational post in the
Scottish Borders. David returned to Headquarters four years
later, to work in the Career Development Branch. He moved to
his present position, as Head of Recruiting, in August 2005.
Inspector
Lyle has been known as a gay man since 1990 and involved with
the Gay Police Association since 1995, when, as the only Scottish
officer in the Association, he was appointed Scottish Co-ordinator.
Since then, the work of the GPA has moved at an ever-increasing
pace and he now has Force Co-coordinators in Lothian and Borders,
Strathclyde, Tayside and Grampian Police, and membership, police
and support staff, in all eight Scottish Forces.
