Legislation setting out Scottish Government plans for a single Police Service for Scotland has now been published.
Scotland has an excellent police service – crime is at a 35-year low, helped by the 1000 extra police officers in communities. However, Scotland’s public sector is facing unprecedented financial challenges and reform is the only way to sustain these hard-won gains and sustain the local policing communities depend on. The status quo is no longer sustainable.

SEMPERscotland actively interacts with young people. Our passion for young adults from the minority ethnic communities to become involved in the Scottish socio-political processes cannot be overstated. We will carry on working with them to highlight, celebrate and spread ideas like justice, respect and compassion throughout their communities.
Indeed, it goes without saying that the promotion of the Police Service as a prospective career features prominently in our activities.
We hope that by engaging with them both formally and informally, they can get a better understanding of the Police Service and, where possible, positively influence policing policies and strategies.

Scotland aims to cut costs and balance national and local interests in plans for unified police and fire services. But the devil may be in the detail, Maureen Ferrier reports

What is it
It’s an informal session with young adults from minority ethnic communities and the police with discussions around their views/experiences on policing in Scotland in general and the region in particular. Of course, as this is about interaction, the young people will have the opportunity to ask police officers and staff about life in the Service; the recruitment process; the various roles. This will be a precursor to the main event – the proposed National BME Youth Forum.
We are looking for young adults to participate in our next forum in April 2012.
